Permanently Replace Missing Teeth
Implant Dentistry in Holly Springs
If you are missing one or several teeth, dental implants can transform your smile and provide you with a permanent, healthy solution for tooth loss. A dental implant consists of two parts: the implant itself, and a restoration, or prosthetic tooth. The implant is a small titanium rod that is inserted into your jaw, below the gumline. It will bond with your natural tissues, acting as an artificial tooth root. The restoration (which is usually a dental crown) will be attached to the implant for a beautiful, natural-looking smile. You’ll be able to smile and chew with confidence once again!
Understanding the Benefits
Why Choose a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are the “gold standard” for replacing missing teeth. They have a number of benefits that make them a superior choice to other types of treatment, such as dentures and dental bridges. The benefits of dental implants include:
- Long Lifespan - You can expect your implant to last 30+ years. Most people are able to keep their implants for the rest of their lives. In contrast, bridges or dentures must be replaced every 5-15 years, in most cases.
- Prevent Bone Loss - Dental implants help support and strengthen your jaw, protecting it from bone loss (resorption). When you lose a tooth, the underlying bone is no longer stimulated by chewing and biting, so it starts to degrade. Implants function as an artificial root and are placed directly into the bone, so they prevent this from happening, supporting better jaw health.
- Natural Look and Feel - A dental implant is totally indistinguishable from a real tooth when capped with a dental crown, and it will never move or shift in your mouth when you chew, speak, smile or laugh.
- Easy to Care For - Single-tooth dental implants can be treated just like a natural tooth. All you have to do to keep your implant healthy is to brush twice a day and floss once a day, and see Dr. Gabriel Duncan at Spring Smiles for a teeth cleaning and oral exam every six months.
Know Your Options
Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
If you are missing one or more teeth in Holly Springs, but your remaining teeth are healthy and strong and you are free of gum disease or tooth decay, you may be a good candidate for dental implants.
Your jaw must also be strong enough to have an implant placed. However, if you have lost a lot of bone due to tooth loss, it may be possible to perform a bone graft to strengthen your jaw before your implant is placed. To find out if you are a good candidate for a dental implant, we recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Gabriel Duncan at Spring Smiles.
Stay Calm and Relaxed
Sedation Options for Dental Implants
The process of implant placement surgery can seem frightening and intimidating. We use the latest tools and techniques for minimally-invasive implant placement, but sedation can still help you feel more safe and comfortable during the process.
We offer both laughing gas (nitrous oxide) sedation and oral sedation. Nitrous oxide sedation uses a nose mask, which pumps a mixture of nitrous oxide gas and oxygen into your lungs. When you inhale, you will feel happy, relaxed and more comfortable. You won’t feel anxious, and you will be less likely to feel any pain or discomfort during your procedure. Nitrous oxide wears off within 5 minutes and has few side effects, so you can drive yourself home after treatment.
Oral conscious sedation is a bit different. You’ll take a pill 1-2 hours before your treatment. You’ll start to feel very relaxed and groggy once the medication takes effect, and you may sleep through most or all of your treatment, and forget what happened during your appointment. You cannot drive yourself home after oral conscious sedation, however. Its after-effects can last 4-6 hours or longer, so you will need to make appropriate arrangements to get home after your appointment.
