Modern dental technology plays an important role in supporting both patient comfort and clinical precision. At Spring Smiles, we thoughtfully invest in advanced equipment that enhances safety, accuracy, and overall care—while remaining aligned with our holistic, patient-centered approach.
Our office utilizes a range of technologies designed to support a safer and more comfortable visit, including the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART), ozone technology, and Medify air filtration systems to support a clean clinical environment. We also use low-dose digital imaging, including CBCT scans and the NOMAD handheld X-ray device, which allows for precise imaging with minimized exposure.
For treatment planning and comfort, we incorporate iTero® digital scanning technology, enabling accurate impressions without traditional molds and supporting efficient, predictable care.Together, these technologies help us deliver dental care that is modern, intentional, and focused on patient wellbeing.

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an advanced form of dental imaging used when traditional dental X-rays do not provide enough information. CBCT allows us to view the teeth, jawbone, surrounding structures, and nerve pathways in three dimensions, supporting precise evaluation and treatment planning.
At Spring Smiles, we use low-dose CBCT technology and follow a conservative approach, recommending this imaging only when it offers meaningful diagnostic benefit. The radiation dose is carefully minimized while still providing highly detailed images that cannot be captured with standard two-dimensional X-rays.
CBCT imaging may be used to evaluate complex cases such as bone health, impacted teeth, infections, cysts or lesions, airway considerations, implant planning, and detailed anatomical relationships. The scan requires a single, quick rotation, making the process efficient and comfortable for patients.
By using advanced, low-dose CBCT imaging only when appropriate, we are able to gather critical information while maintaining a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and thoughtful patient care.

The DAV VII is a mobile, stand-alone, hands-free air cleaning device with a flexible source suction duct designed to capture and filter out harmful aerosols and particulates including Mercury vapors away from the patient and provider. The DAV VII is an integral part of the SMART protocol to safely remove Mercury amalgam fillings, protecting the patient, staff and any other person within the office.

Dr. Duncan is one of the few dentists who is both SMART Protocol Certified and an accredited fellow with the IAOMT. At Spring Smiles, all mercury amalgam fillings requiring removal are done so using the SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) protocol. For more information regarding SMART protocol and safe mercury practices, visit IAOMT.org
Because every amalgam removal at Spring Smiles is done using the SMART protocol, you can enter our clinic knowing that you and your family are breathing filtered air.

Ozone is a naturally occurring form of oxygen (O₃) with powerful antimicrobial and healing properties. In holistic dentistry, ozone is used in both gas and ozonated water forms to safely disinfect, support tissue healing, and reduce inflammation—without relying on harsh chemicals or antibiotics.
Why We Use OzonePowerful Antimicrobial Action
Ozone effectively neutralizes bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites that contribute to decay, gum disease, and infection—often within seconds.
Supports Natural Healing
By increasing oxygen availability at the cellular level, ozone promotes circulation, tissue regeneration, and faster healing after dental procedures.
Non-Toxic & Biocompatible
When applied correctly, ozone breaks down into pure oxygen, leaving no chemical residue and aligning with whole-body, biocompatible care principles.
Reduces Inflammation & Sensitivity
Ozone helps calm inflamed tissues, making it beneficial for periodontal therapy, extractions, implants, and post-operative recovery.
Gas vs. Ozonated Water
💭 Ozone Gas is used in targeted applications for deep disinfection—such as treating decay, root canal sites, extraction areas, and periodontal pockets.
💦 Ozonated Water is used for gentle yet effective rinsing and irrigation during cleanings and procedures, supporting oral balance and tissue health.By integrating ozone therapy, holistic dentistry focuses not just on treating symptoms, but on restoring a healthier oral environment that supports the body’s natural ability to heal.
