How it Works
Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic treatment that uses clear plastic aligners to shift the position of your teeth. These aligners look similar to a retainer or a nightguard. Rather than using a system of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses these specially-designed aligners to slowly and gently move your teeth into the correct position. Invisalign aligners must be worn for 20-22 hours per day to achieve optimal results.
What to Expect
Invisalign Treatment Process
The first step to getting a straight smile with Invisalign is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Duncan. Once you are approved for treatment, he will take scan and take photos of your teeth, then send them to the Invisalign lab where your aligners will be custom designed. Dr. Duncan will work with the Invisalign team to create your Invisalign treatment plan.
When your aligners arrive at our office, we will provide you with your first several sets and instructions for proper wear and maintenance. You’ll wear each aligner for 20-22 hours per day, removing them only to brush and floss and to eat and drink. Every 2 weeks, you will switch to a new set of aligners. Every 6 weeks, you’ll return to our office for a quick checkup and to get your next several sets of aligners. Typically, treatment time lasts just under one year.
Benefits of Invisalign
- Aligners are nearly invisible when worn, so you can remain confident and carefree throughout your orthodontic treatment.
- Your aligners also will not affect your speech and you will feel no hindrance in social situations.
- Clear aligners are removable for eating, brushing, and flossing. This means there are no dietary restrictions and it’s easier for you to clean and maintain your teeth during treatment.
- Invisalign is much more comfortable compared to traditional braces, as there are no metal brackets or wires to irritate your mouth, and the pressure exerted on your teeth is more gentle and even.
Candidates for Treatment
Is Invisalign Right for Me?
Invisalign is usually a good option for you if you have minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues. It can be used to treat issues such as gaps in your smile, uneven and crooked teeth, and minor bite issues. However, it’s not appropriate for treating serious jaw or bite alignment issues. For more severe orthodontic problems, braces may be a better option. Contact us for an appointment with Dr. Duncan to learn more and see if you’re a good candidate!
